Hiddensee, beloved as a place of longing for freedom and marked by upheavals unfolding throughout Germany. This documentary looks back over a whole century, to the Roaring Twenties, when the Berlin avant-garde made its home here. In contrast to the island's peaceful idyll, it tells the story of how profoundly the rupture of National Socialism devastated intellectual life in Germany.
